So, my favorite TV show right now is Community. Inspector Spacetime, anyone? (Note: Not my favorite TV show ever. My Favorite Ever is a tie between two obvious ones: Doctor Who and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) Anyway, the reason I love it is because every episode is basically a pop culture reference to something else. I mean, come on? Inspector Spacetime? Eradicate? The past two years' last episodes of the season? The Dungeons and Dragons episode? If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then you need to watch Community. It is pure genius for a pop culture geek like myself.
My next "episode" of Crossing Timestreams is based on something very popular. The title of the chapter in and of itself says it all. I really enjoy the fanfics where the writer takes a popular story and adds it to the Whoniverse, creating something original. I've seen it done with Peter Pan (I believe the story was The Trouble With Time. Check it out. The chapters are nice and long, just how I like them, even if I can't do that myself.) I just read it in one of my new favorites, My Traveling Man, which integrates aspects of The Wizard of Oz. So, basically, two writers have taken two of my favorite childhood things and mixed it with my current favorite thing. And done it well and done it originally.
I've had the idea for the next section since before I started this story, so I'm excited to get to it. For a while, I couldn't decide which Doctor/Companion combination to use. I picture 11 when I think of this, but Donna is a funnier companion, because Amy is too obvious. And, because, let's face it, 10 is the most attractive, I've decided to use 10/Donna. The attractive factor had a lot to do with it, because of what the next Big Bad is gonna be. Trust me, it'll make sense. I hope. Well, whatever, it makes sense in my mind, so that's all that matters!
And I would like to add a disclaimer to this next section of the story. And this is going to be a !!!SPOILER!!!, so if you want to keep the mystery, I would suggest skipping down to my music referral. If you are cool with spoilers, then have at it. Here is my disclaimer: I love vampires, I do love the first Twilight book, and, like most girls, I am curiously in love with Edward Cullen. That being said, I also think the hysteria revolving around the books and movies is ridiculous. Really, the books are poorly written and the vampires themselves are lame (seriously? SPARKLING?!?! NO FANGS?!?! WHAT'S THE POINT??!!?!?). To me, the awesomest vampires are Spike from Buffy and Lestat from the Anne Rice books. Really, don't get me started on how Spike is better than Angel. I have it all figured out. It's down to a science now. But, anyway, before I go off on THAT tangent, my point of this disclaimer, is that I love Twilight, but it's one of those love/hate relationships. More like I hate that I love it. So, yes, references will be made to the weaker points of Twilight. There is definitely a satirical air to this episode. Be warned. At the same time, some points that are important to the plot will be made.
...And that's all I have to say about that.

MUSIC TIME! I'm currently listening to The Civil Wars. I heard the song below while flipping through channels one day and I fell in love with this group. I love the harmonies, I love the bluegrass, singer-songwriter feel.
HA! While trying to find a video for you guys, I learned this song was featured on an episode of The Vampire Diaries. Well, that's... convenient... I love when entries come full circle!

EDIT: I have to feature this one too. It's complete stripped down. No mics, just them and the guitar. The sound isn't as good as the one above, obviously, but their voices sound so amazing in this one, I had to include it.
Hey, madis hartte here, popping on over. I know exactly what you mean about hating that you love Twilight.
ReplyDeleteIt's a complicated relationship that Twilight and I have. >.<
